Dirk's Drawings and Their Paper

In this article, Dirk looks at some of his drawings and talks about the various paper that he used for them. He gives his opinion and rates all the papers.

Drawn Face V

Graphite on Canson Mi-teintes (natural white). Beware that mi-teintes and “mi-teintes Touch” (3rd drawing here) are very different paper.

Black Sun

Graphite and white and black ink on Hahnemühle Nostalgie, c. 50 x 70 cm.

The paper has a yellow tint that made it already quite dark, so I used white ink for the highlights. I also used black ink for the dark accents.

The image is B/W that’s why you can’t see the tint.

Personal opinion

I do not use this paper anymore. It has a lot of binder in it and therefore can feel really waxy when covered with graphite. It has a bit of texture but no tooth, which makes blending harder.

Rating: 2.5/5 Stars
