WELCOME TO MY ATELIER
For more than twenty years, artists have travelled from around the world to study with me in workshops and in my studio.
They came not simply to learn techniques, but to understand how I see a drawing: how I interpret the reference, build form, control values and gradually bring a portrait to life.
Over the years, those principles became the Dzimirsky Drawing Method.
DRAMA is where I now teach that approach as a structured online atelier.

Personal Feedback
Your assignments are reviewed by me and the DRAMA instructors so you understand what is working, what needs improvement, and what to focus on next.
Live Study & Critique
I regularly meet with students together with the DRAMA instructors for demonstrations, critiques, discussions and live feedback.
The Studio
Think of it as the shared space of my atelier. You can show your drawings, ask questions, discuss work with other students, and learn from the feedback and conversations happening around you.
THE METHOD BEHIND MY WORK
The Dzimirsky Drawing Method
I developed the Dzimirsky Drawing Method from the principles behind my own drawings and refined it through more than two decades of teaching.
When artists draw from photographs, one of the most common mistakes I see is that they begin with details. They try to draw everything they see at once.
That usually leads to frustration. The drawing may contain a lot of detail, but it still looks flat because its structure, values and form were never properly established.
I teach you to work differently.
We begin with structure, tonal values and sculptural form. Only after the underlying drawing works do we move into texture, details and refinement.
My goal is not to teach you to create photocopies - or copies of my work. I want you to develop the understanding and control to transform your own ideas and references into artwork that stands on its own.
THE TRAINING STRUCTURE
INSIDE THE ATELIER
I have structured the training into four progressive levels. You begin by developing the control and understanding required for realistic drawing, then gradually apply those skills to increasingly complex portrait work.
At the advanced stages, the focus gradually shifts from following my studies to developing and completing your own artwork.
You do not simply watch lessons and move on. You practice, complete key studies and submit selected assignments for review. As your skills develop, the next stages of the curriculum open to you.

GUIDANCE THROUGHOUT YOUR STUDY
Learning to see your own mistakes is one of the hardest parts of becoming a better artist.
That is why feedback is an important part of studying in my atelier. You submit selected assignments as you progress, and your own drawing projects, and my instructors and I help you identify what is working, what needs attention and what you should focus on next.
Small corrections in values, form or structure can change the entire drawing.
In the video on the right, you can see examples of the feedback we give students on their work. Live feedback is available in English and German.

What Is Hyperrealism?

Hyperrealism is the pursuit of creating drawings that appear convincingly real while still standing as artworks in their own right.
At DRAMA, hyperrealism is not about copying a photo. It is about understanding form, light, texture, and atmosphere so deeply that you can transform a reference image into a powerful piece of art.
Graphite or Charcoal?

Graphite is the material I use when I want maximum control, subtle tonal transitions, and very precise detail. It is especially suited to building form gradually and creating refined, highly realistic drawings.
Charcoal gives me a wider tonal range, deeper darks, and a more immediate, expressive quality. It is ideal when I want stronger contrast, richer atmosphere, and a more sculptural sense of form.

DEVELOP YOUR OWN ARTISTIC VOICE
Learning technique is only part of becoming an artist.
As your skills develop, I want you to move beyond simply following my drawings or completing assignments. We begin to work with your own ideas: what you want to express, the subjects that interest you, how you create and select your reference images, and how you develop those ideas into finished artworks.
Over time, I help you discover the themes, visual choices and ways of working that can make your work recognisably your own.
This is also where the atelier becomes more than a curriculum. I want students to bring in ideas, share works in progress, discuss them with me and with each other, and gradually develop their own direction as artists.
Over the years, students I have taught have taken very different paths. Some simply wanted to create better work for themselves. Others went on to exhibit, win awards, sell their artwork, teach, or establish their own studios and academies.

THE ATELIER EXPERIENCE
If you are serious about developing your drawing skills and are prepared to practice consistently, I invite you to study with me at DRAMA.
You do not need to be an advanced artist, but you should be willing to practice, repeat work when necessary, and use feedback constructively.
Your enrollment begins with an introductory first month at the reduced tuition rate. During this month, you study as a regular DRAMA student and can decide whether this way of learning is right for you.
If you continue, your regular tuition begins and your 12-month enrollment continues under the Terms of Enrollment.

Yes. The academy is structured into four progressive levels, allowing beginners to build a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced concepts and techniques.
Yes and no. While experienced artists can benefit from the training, the learning paths are designed to guide students from the fundamentals through to advanced hyperrealistic portrait drawing. I taught complete beginners, students in their 60s that have last drawn as teenagers. You only find out if you try.
Yes. DRAMA offers dedicated learning paths for both graphite and charcoal, allowing you to focus on the medium that best suits your goals.
Rather than teaching you to copy a photo blindly, the Dzimirsky Drawing Method teaches you how to understand form, light, shadow, and structure so you can create artwork that stands on its own.
Your enrollment begins with a reduced introductory tuition for the first month. From the day you enroll, you study as a regular DRAMA student and receive access to the academy, assignments, classrooms, and instructor feedback.
If you decide that DRAMA is not the right fit for you, you may cancel before the second payment. Your enrollment will then end at the conclusion of your first month and no further tuition will be charged.
The introductory first-month tuition is non-refundable once your enrollment has begun, as teaching, instructor feedback, and other academy services are provided during this period, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
If you continue beyond the first month, the regular monthly tuition begins and your 12-month enrollment continues under the standard Terms of Enrollment.
Students progress through four guided levels, completing assignments and building their skills step by step. Each level prepares you for the next stage of development.
Students can submit assignments and drawing projects for review and receive guidance throughout their learning journey.
This depends on your available time and dedication. Some students progress quickly, while others prefer a slower pace. The academy is designed to support long-term development rather than rushed completion.
