HYPERREALISTIC DRAWINGS BY MY STUDENTS

Over more than twenty years of teaching realistic and hyperrealistic drawing, I have worked with artists at very different stages of their development. Some came to me as complete beginners. Others already had strong technical skills but wanted to take their drawings and artistic ideas much further. This gallery shows selected drawings by artists who have studied with me through DRAMA, private mentoring, workshops, and earlier drawing programs. What matters to me is not that their work looks like mine. I want students to develop the technical understanding to create convincing realism, then gradually use those skills to develop their own images, ideas, themes, and artistic voice.

DIRK DZIMIRSKY — HYPERREALISTIC DRAWINGS

My own hyperrealistic graphite and charcoal drawings are the foundation of the Dzimirsky Drawing Method I teach in DRAMA. Over more than two decades, I have developed a way of working that begins with structure, tonal values and form before moving into detail, texture and refinement. The drawings below show the artistic principles students learn when they study realistic and hyperrealistic portrait drawing with me.

SILVIA SÃO PAULO — FROM STUDENT TO PROFESSIONAL REALIST ARTIST

Silvia began her journey as my mentee and quickly rose to become a DRAMA teacher in 2024. Silvia is represented by 33 Contemporary and is an acclaimed, award-winning artist. Today she helps guide DRAMA students through their studies.

RUBÉN FERNÁNDEZ PEREIRA - DARK STORYTELLING IN CHARCOAL

Rubén began studying with me through my RIVER video course and later continued through private mentoring. As his technical skills developed, he shifted focus increasingly toward creating his own work. He developed a personal approach to narrative charcoal drawing with recurring visual ideas and themes. Today, Rubén works as a full-time artist, has received multiple awards for his work, and is also part of the DRAMA instructor team and published several video courses with me.

SUHROB YARASHEV — REALIST DRAWING & PERSONAL ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT

Suhrob studied with me through private mentoring, where we worked not only on drawing technique but also on the development of his own artwork and artistic direction. His work demonstrates how strong technical foundations can become the basis for increasingly personal and independent images. After studying with me, Suhrob became part of the DRAMA teaching team and now helps other students develop their own skills.

REALISM & HYPERREALISM STUDENT DRAWING GALLERY

The drawings below were created by artists who have studied with me through DRAMA, private mentoring, drawing workshops, and earlier online training programs. They represent very different levels of experience, artistic ambitions, and individual styles. Some students wanted to build professional art careers. Others wanted to become much stronger artists for themselves. In both cases, the goal of my teaching is the same: to develop the technical understanding, visual judgment, and independence needed to create work that increasingly becomes their own.

LEARN HYPERREALISTIC DRAWING - THEN DEVELOP YOUR OWN ART

Learning drawing technique is only the beginning.

In my atelier, I want you to eventually move beyond following exercises and reproducing my studies. As your skills develop, we begin working with your own ideas.

That can mean developing a concept, choosing or creating your own photographic references, deciding on composition and atmosphere, exploring recurring themes, and gradually discovering what makes your work recognisably yours.

For students who want to become artists professionally, this can also include questions of artistic direction, style, subject matter, presentation, and building a coherent body of work.

My goal is not to produce students who draw like me.

My goal is to help you become capable of creating work that is genuinely your own.

Workshop attendee and student

Studying under Dirk Dzimirsky has changed the course of my professional art career forever. I attended a graphite drawing workshop in 2019 and my expectations were completely exceeded. Since then, I've continued to work with him through his online mentorship program, allowing his teachings to truly sink in and my skill set start to flourish.

Dirk’s innovative instruction was unlike any I had received in the United States and accelerated my art career. More important than ‘how-to’ graphite instruction, Dirk helped me learn to see. Upon returning from my first trip, I finished the work on my easel only to have it immediately earning spots in area exhibitions. It even won a $1,500 prize in the prestigious Overland Park exhibition. My only regret is not registering for these courses sooner.

I will send you at least 20 pages of things that I think makes you not only a skilful master but also an ideal teacher and a leader. Thank you very much for your support and for the opportunity to work beside you.

STUDY REALISTIC & HYPERREALISTIC DRAWING WITH ME

You will study through a structured progression, complete drawing studies and assignments, receive personal feedback, work alongside other students, and gradually move from technical development toward creating your own independent artwork.

If you are serious about improving your drawing and developing further as an artist, I invite you to study with me.
