How the Atelier Works
A Structured Approach to Learning
Studying at DRAMA is different from simply watching online drawing tutorials.
The atelier follows a structured curriculum built around the Dzimirsky Drawing Method, guiding students through a logical progression of skills from fundamental techniques to advanced realistic drawing.
Each lesson prepares you for the next, allowing you to build lasting knowledge and technical control one step at a time.
Study at Your Own Pace
The curriculum is entirely self-paced.
There are no fixed start dates, deadlines or required schedules.
Whether you study a few hours each week or practice every day, you can progress at a pace that fits your lifestyle while following the same structured learning path.
Receive Feedback
Completed assignments can be submitted for review.
Feedback is designed to help you understand both what you're doing well and what still needs improvement before moving forward.
The goal is not simply to complete an assignment, but to master the underlying skill it was designed to teach.
Join Study Classes
Every curriculum level has dedicated Study Classes where students can ask questions, review assignments and learn alongside others studying the same material.
Even when another student's work is being discussed, you'll often discover solutions to challenges in your own drawings.
Study Classes extend the learning beyond the lessons and provide valuable opportunities for discussion and deeper understanding.
Learn Together
The DRAMA community allows students to share their work, ask questions, discuss techniques and encourage one another throughout their studies.
Dedicated spaces for each curriculum level make it easy to connect with students working on similar concepts and assignments.
Learning independently doesn't mean learning alone.
Master the skill - not just the assignment
"The goal isn't to produce one successful drawing. It's to develop the technical control needed to achieve the same result consistently. Each assignment is designed to build a skill that you'll rely on throughout the rest of the curriculum."
- Dirk Dzimirsky
Progress Through the Curriculum
The curriculum is divided into four progressive levels.
As your understanding and technical control grow, you'll move from foundational drawing techniques to increasingly complex subjects and complete hyperrealistic portraits.
Each level builds upon the previous one, ensuring that new concepts are introduced only after the necessary skills have been developed.
A Long-Term Education
DRAMA is designed for artists who want to build lasting skills.
Realistic drawing takes time to master, and meaningful progress comes through consistent study and practice rather than rushing from one lesson to the next.
The academy provides the structure, guidance and support needed to help you continue growing over months and years.
