Drawing Video Courses
Learn How To Create Professional Looking Artworks!

Our courses are different because they give your drawings a structure. Dirk‘s sculptural approach to Hyperrealism separates the drawing into steps. By focusing on only 1 or 2 steps at a time makes the drawing process so much easier.
We have courses on drawing with graphite and charcoal, from beginners to advanced levels. Want us to help you pick a course or answer a question? You can email us or chat with us.

There Are 2 Types Of Drawings: The Ones You Are Doing Right Now And The Ones That You Are Capable Of.

The video courses provide concepts and knowledge to drawing realism that will help you to raise your drawings—especially portrait drawings—to new heights. The ultimate goal is to give the student a method to create his/her own professional artworks!

Here Are Some Common Problems You Might Run Into And How To Fix Them

Problem #1

You start a drawing motivated but get stuck after a while and don't finish it for fear of ruining it.

Cause
This happens when you see a photo you love and jump cold into the drawing without knowing what techniques to use for certain elements, when to use what pencil or if you even have the right paper for that specific subject. Ergo you have no plan or method.
Solution
Study the elements of the photo (such as part of the hair or the skin texture on the neck, etc.) and make separate test drawings of them. If you can’t get a satisfiying result, you saved yourself a lot of time and nerves before you fully started the project. Now might be a good time to consider a drawing video course to learn a proper method.

Problem #2

Even after spending endless time on a drawing, you're still not happy with the outcome.

Cause
You thought by painstakingly slowly copying the photo inch by inch will get you a perfect result but the final drawing lacks on so many levels.
Solution
Our eyes are conditioned to perceive everything in context. Even if you put a lot of effort into drawing each part separately, the final drawing might still be incorrect, flat, or even awkward. It is crucial to work on the drawing as a whole and to have a bird's eye view throughout the process in order to maintain control over the drawing and know that you are on the right track. Develop the practice of regularly leaning back or even getting up to see your drawing as a whole. Your drawing will be 100% better just by doing this!

Problem #3

You followed the instructions of one of our video courses but still did not get the result you wanted.

Cause
Again, just like above, you probably jumped cold into the drawing, and forgot that although you have instructions now, you still have to practice any new technique and approach.
Solution
Draw the course twice: the first time (learning focus) in a relaxed study manner to get familiar with new techniques, concepts and materials, and the second time (outcome focused) draw it for real now that you are familiar with everything. Hint: You do not have to finish all parts of the first drawing - just enough to practice. You could also just do several studies first.

Problem #4

It looks like you've hit a wall with your drawing skills and can't get any better.

Cause
This happens when you continue to strive for improvement in areas that no longer require it while ignoring those that would provide the greatest benefit.
Solution
Since you already have a high level of drawing skills in some areas (but you might not be aware of it), improving those areas will only result in a 1% or so improvement with each drawing. However, you ignore other important components of a great artwork. For instance, simply choosing better photos or better preparing photos for drawing would improve your outcome by at least 50%. Examine your own drawings, acknowledge that your learning objectives change as you advance, and focus on what enables you to make the most progress.
