The Dzimirsky Drawing Method Material

Dzimirsky Drawing Method: The Materials

A) Canson 1557, DIN A3 (paper is sensitive, alternative: Hahnemühle 190, or Daler-Rowney Heaveyweight Smooth)

B) Faber-Castell 9000 Pencils, Grade 5H (black, not pictured), HB (white), B (yellow), 3B (red), 5B (blue), 8B (green)

The majority of the drawing is done with these pencils. So whenever it is just mentioned HB, 3B or 8B and so on, it'S Faber-Castell.

C) Staedtler Mars Lumograph Black 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B

These pencils' names are shorten to Staedtler Black during the course.

D) Blending stumps and (optional) Tortillon

E) Short, stiff brush, soft brush and fan brush

F) Sharpener (A crank desk sharpener is a must to get a sharp but still round-ish tip)

G Eraser pencil Mono Zero from Tombow (round tip), kneadable eraser (I recommend Faber-Castell or Lyra. Pay attention that the eraser is not sticky and crumbling, leaving dirt on the paper), and electric eraser with a fine tip

H) Tissues (not too soft)

I) Cutter

Cardboard stripe or stick to rest your hand upon while drawing.

Further recommended tools:

Decent photo printer or printing service nearby. I am using a 15 year old Brother office printer for most of my reference photo prints. Alternatively, you could go to a nearby printing shop or drugstore (they often have self-serving Kodak or Fuji photo machines). Their printing quality is usually way superior and it is amazing what depth int the tones they can provide.

Do not use a Laser printer as they will not give you the tones and details that you need.

Photoshop or Affinity Photo 2 or similar photo app.

Light Pad. An A3 sized light pad is very inexpensive and highly recommended. You probably can get one in discount shops for under 20 Euros.
