ONLINE ACADEMY FOR REALISM DRAWING
A Different Approach to Learning Drawing
While many academies treat drawing fundamentals as preparation for painting or casual sketching, DRAMA focuses on a clear objective: helping you draw from photos with a sculptural approach to hyperrealism.
Every training program is designed to develop, step by step, the techniques, understanding, and control required for high-level drawing — not just basic practice.
The Dzimirsky Drawing Method
Most artists who draw from photos try to achieve realism by copying details from the very beginning. They attempt to draw everything at once — and often become slaves to the photo.
The result is usually frustration: flat drawings, inconsistent realism, and details that do not look convincing because structure, form, and depth have not yet been established.
The Dzimirsky Drawing Method teaches a different way.
You learn how to use a photo as a starting point, not as something to copy blindly. Through a clear step-by-step system, you build the drawing from the inside out: first structure, values, and sculptural form — then details, textures, and final refinement.
The goal is not to create a photocopy.
The goal is to transform the reference into an artwork that stands on its own — with depth, atmosphere, emotion, and presence.
Over time, this process changes more than your drawings. It changes the way you see, think, and work as an artist.
See in the student gallery what our students have achieved with this approach.
What DRAMA Students Say
"Before DRAMA, I jumped from one YouTube tutorial to another without knowing what to practise. The structured curriculum and Dzimirsky Drawing Method finally gave me a clear process. Dirk’s Sculptural Approach showed me the foundation my drawings had been missing."

YOUR LEARNING PATH
A Structured Path From Fundamentals to Advanced Portrait Drawing
Inside DRAMA, you follow structured learning paths for our 2 main drawing mediums: graphite and/or charcoal, with a strong focus on realistic portrait drawing.
Each path is divided into 4 progressive levels, guiding you through the essential stages of your development — from fundamental technique to advanced portrait work.
You move through these levels, completing assignments and submitting your work before advancing. This ensures that each stage is understood and practiced before more advanced techniques are unlocked.
By completing Level 4, you have developed the skills and understanding needed to create advanced hyperrealistic portraits with the Sculptural Approach.
What Is Hyperrealism?
Hyperrealism is the pursuit of creating drawings that appear convincingly real while still standing as artworks in their own right.
At DRAMA, hyperrealism is not about copying a photo. It is about understanding form, light, texture, and atmosphere so deeply that you can transform a reference image into a powerful piece of art.
Graphite or Charcoal?
DRAMA offers dedicated learning paths for both graphite and charcoal.
Graphite allows for exceptional precision, subtle detail, and smooth tonal transitions.
Charcoal offers richer dark values, greater contrast, and a more expressive visual impact.
The principles of the Dzimirsky Drawing Method apply to both mediums, allowing you to choose the path that best suits your artistic goals.

The Artist Behind The Method
Dirk Dzimirsky is a pioneer of hyperrealism drawing, and the founder of DRAMA – Dzimirsky Realism Art Master Academy.
For more than two decades, he has studied the principles behind convincing hyperrealism, refining his observations into a structured system that helps artists understand not only how to draw, but also how to use photographic references to create strong, independent artworks. The result is the Dzimirsky Drawing Method, a comprehensive approach to creating realistic artwork from photos.
His drawings have been exhibited internationally, published in books and magazines, and collected worldwide. Through workshops, online teaching, and DRAMA, he has helped artists across the globe develop their technical skills, artistic understanding, and confidence.
Today, his mission is to make the principles of realism accessible through a clear, structured path that allows dedicated artists to reach their full potential.
